The
Edmonton Calligraphic Society (ECS) is a non-profit organization formed in February 1986. The mission of the ECS is to develop and refine calligraphy and related arts among members, and to introduce and promote the art of calligraphy to the general public in the Edmonton area. The ECS membership includes calligraphers, lettering artists, and advocates of handwriting.
Our passion is to study, write, and promote calligraphy and hand lettering as a visual art form in Edmonton, Alberta and the surrounding area. ECS Membership is open to all, regardless of calligraphic ability. We are lifelong learners and our mission includes sharing our collective knowledge and skills with our community and our members.
ECS programming runs from September through June each year and includes a variety of meetings, lectures, classes, and workshops. ECS takes pride in introducing, promoting and presenting lettering arts and calligraphy to local communities in the Greater Edmonton Area each year.
We love to highlight the amazing work of our members at each of our in-person meetings through “For the Love of Letters” – our ongoing program in which members can bring along and share what they have worked on or discovered since our last meeting. This includes finished works, works in progress, practice sheets, or inspirational lettering samples.
New members are welcome to join at any time during the year. Visit our Membership page to see all the benefits and consider joining us.
We are also active on social media. We welcome all to join the conversation on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
