Welcome to Our October Meeting — Let’s Keep the Season Rolling!

After a wonderful start to our 2026–2027 season in September, we’re excited to gather again for another inspiring evening of lettering and community. October brings a unique treat: a chance to explore Pointed Pen Uncial with longtime ECS instructor Pauline Baynes. Whether you’re returning for more or joining us for the first time this year, we can’t wait to welcome you into the creative flow.

What We’ll Be Learning

This month, we’re exploring a beautiful twist on a classic hand: Pointed Pen Uncial. Pauline will guide us through adapting the traditional Uncial forms to a flexible pointed nib, creating expressive, contemporary letterforms with a historic backbone.

This session is beginner‑friendly and a wonderful opportunity to experiment with pressure‑and‑release strokes, rhythm, and the unique texture the pointed pen brings to this ancient script. You’ll leave with practice sheets, new techniques, and a fresh appreciation for this hybrid style.

What to Bring

• Pointed pen holder
• Flexible pointed nib (Nikko G, Zebra G, or similar)
• Ink of your choice
• Smooth practice paper
• Pencil and ruler
• Basic supplies will be available for those who need them.

Instructor

Pauline Baynes Pauline is a long‑time ECS member and beloved instructor known for her deep knowledge of traditional hands and her playful, encouraging teaching style. She brings a thoughtful approach to technique, form, and creative exploration, making her sessions welcoming for all levels.

Members: This meeting is included in your ECS membership. Please register so we know you’re coming.

Non‑Members: Drop‑in fee: $10. Register online to reserve your spot. If you’ve been thinking about joining ECS, this is a perfect chance to try a meeting and meet our community.
